Banijay Entertainment’s reality competition series scores third Prime Video pickup.

Media and entertainment powerhouse, Banijay Entertainment, announces its hit reality competition format, The 50, is heading to Italy.

Marking the sixth international version, Banijay Italia will produce a 10-episode series for Prime Video.

Originally created by Banijay France’s B-Prod, The 50 sees 50 reality stars compete inside a castle under the control of a mysterious Lion-masked Game Master. Through daily challenges, players gain the power to save others, while those left unprotected are eliminated. As alliances shift, the group works to build a shared jackpot, with the final prize of up to €50,000 awarded, not to the winner, but to one of their supporters.

The 50 has delivered standout successes across multiple markets, including in France, India and Germany, where the format debuted at #1 on Prime Video, and this week launched its third season.

Francesco Lauber, Chief Creative Officer of Banijay Italia says: “The 50 is bold, unpredictable and built around dynamic gameplay. Its blend of strategy, spectacle and social interaction makes it a strong fit for the Italian market, and we will be bringing this ambitious format to life with a distinctive local flavour that will surprise audiences.”

Lucas Green, Chief Content Officer, Operations, Banijay Entertainment adds: “This commission further illustrates the strong appetite from streamers for premium unscripted formats. With The 50 already demonstrating its ability to scale internationally, its launch in Italy marks a significant milestone in the format’s global expansion and further strengthens our cross-market partnership with Prime Video. Banijay Italia, with its proven track record in delivering bold, high-impact formats, brings the expertise needed to deliver a strong local adaptation of The 50 that balances cultural relevance with the show’s signature scale.”

Banijay Italia is home to a rich slate of titles which includes reality favourites L’Isola dei Famosi and Il Collegio, game shows: L’Eredità, Don’t Forget the Lyrics, Name That Tune; top cooking shows: Quattro Ristoranti and Bake Off Italia; talent shows: La Corrida; adventure game: Beijing Express; comic show: GialappaShow and Comedy Match; dating show: Undressed and talk show Piazzapulita. For Amazon Prime Video Banijay Italia has produced the documentary Ferro, the cooking travelogue Dinner Club and the docu-reality The Ferragnez. For Netflix the documentary Unica, the series Ilary and the reality show Summer Job.
