TTV+ Buyers: What Are Buyers Looking For?

In the following interview with ttvnews, Jorge Balleste, Director of Content Partnerships and Acquisitions for US Hispanic at Future Today, shares what content they want to add to their catalog in the international market.

In an industry as evolving as the entertainment industry, it is imperative to stay one step ahead of the latest trends and know what the international market demands regarding content.

To this end, ttvnews presents the Buyers: What are buyers looking for? Initiative to learn first-hand about the programming needs of buyers around the world.

This time, we spoke to Jorge Balleste, Director of Content Partnerships and Acquisitions for US Hispanic at Future Today:

What type of content is most in demand by your audience today?

The leading entertainment platform is called Fawesome, and now, in English, they offer a wide variety of content—movies, series, and reality shows —providing a lot of options. And now we’re launching the Spanish side of it.

Now, the Hispanic market has very different tastes compared to what it was years ago. What used to be traditionally a hit—a telenovela, a movie—that’s still part of it, but it can’t be the only thing.

Users now want a lot more: European series, Asian series, vertical content, and podcasts.

There’s just so much content they’re consuming, and at such a fast pace, that having just one or two genres covered doesn’t work anymore for a service.

What kind of content, formats, or genres are you looking for at industry events?

One of the things we want to highlight is having a solid base of relevant and important content for the Hispanic market, but also offering something new.

Having things that other services don’t have. And we’ve had some excellent meetings looking for that kind of content. Content that we know is appealing to the Hispanic audience, but hasn’t been fully explored yet.

Where do you see the biggest growth potential for the company today, and how does that reflect in your programming strategy?

For Future Today, launching this Spanish-language offering as part of the Fawesome platform is a significant step.

Because it’s not a company that has traditionally focused on Spanish content, but they saw the opportunity.

They realized that, despite the existence of several platforms with Spanish content, they’re not being utilized to their full potential. So, they see a way to grow and generate significant revenue for the company.

That’s why one of the top priorities for 2025 is launching Spanish content on the platform and providing a more comprehensive service, now that we’re available in two languages.

And is there any trend you’re paying close attention to in the market right now?

There are a few, but I’d say what we’re seeing now with Asian and Korean series is essential.

It’s not brand-new—they’ve been around for a long time—but it used to be more niche, and now it’s really opening up.

The telenovela audience really enjoys that type of series, as well as reality shows.

Reality shows aren’t new either, but they’ve evolved. Competitions continue to connect with our audience, as they are still being produced, aired, and remain successful.

So, beyond movies, telenovelas, and traditional series, we really need to look at these new kinds of content that the audience is clearly asking for.

When it comes to vertical content trends, are you interested in those formats?

Yes, we’re in talks to add some of that content. I think right now there are a lot of opportunities because many people see it as the next big thing that’s going to take off.
