Se tiene que morir mucha gente, by Victoria Martín, will compete as a world premiere, while Yo siempre a veces, by Marta Bassols and Marta Loza, will screen as an international premiere. The festival runs in Cannes from April 23 to 28.

Movistar Plus+ is reinforcing its standing on the international festival circuit with a double presence in the Canneseries 2026 Official Selection: two of the eight series competing for the top prize are original productions from the Spanish streamer. They are Se tiene que morir mucha gente, created by Victoria Martín — arriving at the festival as a world premiere — and Yo siempre a veces, created by Marta Bassols and Marta Loza, which will compete as an international premiere.

This year’s selection received more than 300 submissions from 41 countries, with the final lineup drawing from 17 nations. “Despite the economic difficulties facing all the producers we work with, across every region, the level of ambition and the quality of the series remain unchanged,” said Albin Lewi, artistic director of Canneseries, as he presented the programming.

The Feature-Length Series section — where both Movistar Plus+ Spanish series are competing — adds eight more titles: Alice and Steve (United Kingdom), Guts (Finland/Slovenia), Harvest (Denmark), Snake Killer (Denmark), Summer of 1985 (Sweden), and The Red and the Black, an Iranian production directed by Ida Panahandeh.

Beyond the Official Selection, the festival features an expansive lineup spread across several sections. The Out of Competition slate brings together six high-profile titles, including Half Man, Richard Gadd’s new series for BBC and HBO; Star City, created by Ronald D. Moore for Apple TV, and The Terror: Devil in Silver (AMC+). Also in this section: Paris Police 1910 (France Télévisions), Prisoner (Sky/Canal+), and California Avenue, produced by Drama Republic for Mediawan.

The program rounds out with a Short Film Competition — featuring six titles from Belgium, Australia, France, Austria, and Finland — and a Docuseries Competition, which includes A Woman Was Killed, a Belgian production by Nahid Shaikh and Phara de Aguirre.
