Alex Avon, VP Global Distribution for Amuz Distribution, spoke to ttvnews about the distributor’s rebranding and its mission to find new alliances in the international market for its “feel-good” comedy programming.

Based in Quebec City, Canada, Amuz Distribution launched in May 2023 as an international distribution company dedicated to great comedy and feel-good scripted, and unscripted, content.

Formerly known as ComediHa! Distribution (CHD), the rebranding came after 25 years as a leader in the field of comedy and as a testament of the company’s commitment to helping create originals and sell ready-to-air content by securing and leveraging all rights and adopting a full 360-degree approach to content.

“Amuz Distribution is involved in distribution and acquisitions, as well as looking to co-produce premium ‘feel-good’ and comedy programming”, said Alex Avon, VP Global Distribution for Amuz Distribution.

To start making this mission a reality, the company attended the past edition of LA Screenings Independents, where it presented its newest titles. “We presented our new catalogue, which is in it launch state, and we are actively acquiring new series,” the executive explained.

Current titles in the Amuz Distribution catalog include, among others, scripted comedy series, Writer’s Block winner of 11 Gémeaux awards (Quebec’s highest TV honour); studio variety format In Lieu of Flowers; and dramedy series The Phoenix, produced by multi-award-winning producers of Happily Married, and About Antoine scripted dramedy series.

“Amuz Distribution hopes to license our comedy and feel-good programming to the US Hispanic and LatAm market as well as to acquire premium comedies from the region,” he added.

And while the distributor is just taking its first steps, the executive believes there might already be several deals in the horizon. “We are in our launch stage and hope to announce agreements in the near future. We are open to all platforms and broadcast outlets and are looking at the Americas, Europe and French-speaking Africa to start”, he revealed.

“Comedy is the number one licensed genre in the global marketplace so we look forward to excelling in this area and especially LatAm,” he added.

As for the remained of the year, the distributor will be attending the main markets, be it Mipcom, MIPCancun, Content London and other potential markets in Europe.

“We invite all producers with feel-good programming to contact us because we want to promote our mission of ‘Keeping the World Feeling Good’,” he concluded.
