In spite of the rain and the early morning storm, Mipcom day two confirmed the positive impressions of day one in terms of attendees, also showing that the market continues to serve as a business center, with multiple deals inked and announced.

First thing in the morning, Grupo Chespirito and THR3 Media Group announced a deal to create and produce content within the Chespirito universe. The partnership will begin with a biopic based on the life of Roberto Gómez Bolaños himself (1929-2014), better known as “Chespirito”.

“We’ll begin with the biopic on Roberto Bolaños, which is vast because it has a lot to do with his own characters. He’s like the Latin American Disney. We are deep in the investigation stage because we want to do something extraordinary, that marks a milestone,” explained to ttvnews Tomás Darcyl, CEO of Telefilms Group.

“As for the following steps, we’re holding a Writer’s Room to combine the Chespirito universe. “We believe that it has inexhaustible resources and that there is no IP as important as Chespirito in Latin America and the US Hispanic. We will work hard to create this universe,” he added.

Turkish company Inter Medya, on its end, announced the sale of Bitter Lands and Broken Wings in Argentina. Although they didn’t reveal the name of the buyer, the sales solidify the success of both series in Latin America and the validity of Turkish content in Argentina.

Broken Wings has already aired in several Latin American countries with resounding success and Bitter Lands has already been sold in almost the entire region,” said Beatriz Cea Okan, of Inter Medya.

But the big announcement of the day was undoubtedly the one from Turkish production company Tims&B Productions and Spain’s Plano a Plano, which revealed a co-development and co-production alliance, the first between Spain and Turkey.

Together they will develop and produce a series that will span two seasons of ten episodes each. Every episode will last 50 minutes and the story will take place between Spain and Turkey.

According to details, it’s a romantic comedy spoken, mostly, in Spanish.

Also from Turkey, Madd Entertainment revealed to ttvnews that it’s working in two additional co-productions with Latin America that will join the projects already underway in the region: one with Chile’s Mega and the other with Viacom International Studios.

The two new projects, detailed Özlem Özsümbul, director of International Sales at Madd Entertainment, will be a short format series and then a long format one.

Duda Rodrigues, from Calinos, confirmed to ttvnews that the distributor will now handle the entire FOX Turkey catalogue for the international market.

“The big news is that we have just signed a contract to be the international distributors of all of FOX’s productions in Turkey for the next seven years. This is great news for our catalogue. They are very successful titles,” explained the executive.

As for sales, Spain’s Mediterráneo revealed to ttvnews several deals for the multi-awarded comedy Dangerous Moms for the canned version and the format.

“We have closed the sale of the canned format of Dangerous Moms with Directv in Latin America, Globosat in Brazil, in Belgium with RTF and in Germany with RTL, which will broadcast the series on its OTT platform. The format optioned it in Italy, Greece, Romania and Hungary,” said Silvia Cotino, head of Sales and Business Development of Mediterráneo to ttvnews.

Two Spanish Series on the Spotlight During Tuesday

As for screenings, two Spanish series were on the spotlight this Tuesday. On the one hand, On Death Row from Movistar+ and StudioCanal presented its first episode for the international market.

On Death Row is a fiction series based on the true story of Pablo Ibar, who was sentenced to death 25 years ago in the state of Florida. What we have done was recreate his 25-year journey across four episodes featuring his family as well. It’s the love story of a family that is trying to get one of their own from jail after a clearly unjust conviction,” said Ramón Campos, executive producer of Bambú Producciones.

And on the other hand, The Mediapro Studio unveiled the first images of The Head, the ambitious series that’s producing alongside Hulu Japan and HBO Asia.

The Head represents The Mediapro Studio dream, what The Mediapro Studio is. Mediapro was already the largest producer in Spain and an important producer in many countries. But The Mediapro Studio is about telling stories from around the world, with the best international talent and that can air on any screen. Three years ago this seemed like a fantasy, a dream, a desire. Three years later, being here presenting this trailer is a dream come true, ”said Ran Tellem, director of International Content at The Mediapro Studio.

The day also saw a conference by Robert Greenblat, Mipcom’s personality of the year, and the presence of legend William Shatner, who launched his factual series, The Unexplained, with A+E.
