Apple TV has announced Ascension, a new one-hour psychological horror thriller from Academy Award winner Alfonso Cuarón, starring and executive produced by BAFTA TV Award winner and five-time Golden Globe nominee Caitríona Balfe. No premiere date has been announced yet.
The series will be co-showrun by Natalie Erika James and Christian White, who will also serve as executive producers. James, who previously directed Apartment 7A and Relic, will serve as lead director, while the series will be written by James, White, Alfonso Cuarón and Carlos Cuarón.

Ascension marks the latest collaboration between Alfonso Cuarón, Anonymous Content and Apple TV following the acclaimed limited series Disclaimer, which received Emmy, Golden Globe, SAG and Critics Choice Award nominations for stars Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline.
Based on Adam Nevill’s novel
Inspired by Adam Nevill’s novel Last Days, Ascension follows Rose, a relentless documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother who is highly skilled at uncovering other people’s truths while struggling to resolve her own.
When Rose begins working on a project about the mysterious 20th-century Church of Ascension, she finds unexpected refuge in its teachings. However, she soon discovers something far more insidious beneath the surface.
The series will explore themes of evil, innocence, family and sacrifice, while examining how far people are willing to go to protect those they love.
