Colorado Films has acquired the local production rights in Italy to adapt the competition format.

Armoza Formats, part of ITV Studios, announced that its recently launched reality competition format, The Fittest Pensioner, has been taken in Italy. The local production rights have been acquired by Colorado Films.

Originally created and produced by Montreux Film, the format premiered on TV2 in Norway this summer and boosted the channel’s average share by 20%, beating all other reality shows on TV2 by 171%. The viewership grew steadily every week, reaching the highest shares of the summer, culminating in the grand finale which was a nationwide TV event, breaking a record of 43% share with the 10-39 key commercial target.

The Fittest Pensioner proved to be ideal “family viewing”, with viewers young and senior alike hooked on all platforms – 3 million people engaged with the show on TV2’s social media channels.

In The Fittest Pensioner (60’), 10 of the nation’s fittest seniors move into a home together, for a fierce competition where they will face multiple challenges. To claim the title, they will compete in both mental and physical challenges, with the aim to perform their best and get a high ranking. The person with the lowest score will be up for elimination, battling it out to save their spot in the house. Who will be crowned the fittest pensioner?

Elizaveta Makarova, Sales Executive for CEE, CIS & Latin Europe at Armoza Formats, said: “It’s wonderful that our Italian partners can see the potential in this extremely inspiring and genuine show. ‘The Fittest Pensioner’ is a missing piece in the market now – a feel-good reality which is meaningful socially but not too serious, and perfect for both the younger and elder generations. We’re very much looking forward to discovering and celebrating the Fittest Pensioner of Italy”.
