The agenda includes one-to-one bilateral meetings between Spanish and Canadian production companies, the presentation of a report by GECA on the international standing of Spanish drama series, and a networking event for content buyers.

Audiovisual from Spain, the umbrella brand of ICEX Spain Trade & Investment for the international promotion of the Spanish screen sector, will once again have a dual presence at Mipcom Cannes 2026, which takes place from 12 to 15 October at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes (France).

The Spanish delegation will therefore combine its usual stand for exhibitors in Riviera 7 (booth R7.J11) and an exclusive area within the MIP Creative Hub, with the aim of promoting co-production, financing and the formation of international partnerships. With an estimated 11,000 participants and over 3,300 buyers, Mipcom Cannes stands as one of the world’s leading meeting places for content distribution.

A programme to connect the Spanish screen sector with the international market

The programme of activities organised by Audiovisual from Spain kicks off on Tuesday 13th with the presentation of the research from Spanish consultancy firm GECA, “Spanish Fiction 2026: between new stories and new seasons”, which will take place at the ICEX area within the MIP Creative Hub at 10.30 am. The session will feature Gloria Saló, Director of Content and Production Consultancy at GECA, who will analyse how the blurring of genre boundaries and thematic hybridisation have given rise to scripted productions featuring unique new narratives, whilst returning seasons of consolidated series demonstrate the value and success of existing IPs.

The following day, from 9.30 am to 10.30 am, the same venue will host a Canada–Spain co-production meeting. The initiative will take the form of one-to-one matchmaking, bringing together Spanish and Canadian production companies with projects of any genre and format interested in exploring real opportunities for international collaboration and co-production. The Canadian delegation comprises the companies ATO Média, Big Bad Boo Studios, Groupe Fair-Play, Reign Films, Rezolution Pictures and Vérité Films, whilst the Spanish side is represented by Honestree Island, Hurí TV, Morgana Studios and Vértigo Films.

This meeting takes on particular significance following the recent signing, at the Toronto International Film Festival, of the new Audiovisual Co-production Treaty between Spain and Canada, which replaces the bilateral framework in force since 1985. This new agreement broadens the concept of co-production to include cinematographic, television and video works, regardless of their length or genre, and also allows for the participation of producers from third countries.

This bilateral initiative comes on the heels of a year of particularly close ties between the media industries of both countries, as Spain was the Country of Honour at the 2026 Banff World Media Festival, held last June in Canada. Furthermore, as part of the aforementioned festival, the original atresplayer series Mariliendre (produced by Suma Content) received the Rockie Award for Best Non-English Language Comedy Series, further boosting the international visibility of Spanish audiovisual content in the North American market.

The Spanish programme at Cannes will conclude on Wednesday 14th from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm with The Audiovisual from Spain Networking Event, an informal gathering to be held at the main stand (R7.J11) aimed at partners and clients of Spanish companies. The aim of this networking event is to establish and strengthen professional relationships with Spanish companies, whilst the latest Spanish content launched during the market will be screened.

With this agenda, Audiovisual from Spain once again places Spanish talent, companies and content at the heart of one of the audiovisual industry’s leading international markets, capitalising on Mipcom’s global reach to facilitate new business connections and expand collaboration opportunities for the Spanish sector.
