The activities include a bilateral co-production pitching session with Canada, an exclusive breakfast for international buyers and a networking luncheon unveiling the latest Spanish content releases.

Nearly 40 Spanish companies will arrive next week at MIPCOM 2023, the world’s largest market for the sale and acquistion of television content, which celebrates its 39th edition from 16 to 19 October at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes (France). Organiser RX France expects more than 11,000 professionals to participate in a year in which China will be the country of honour.

In addition to repeating the double space it had last year, with the usual stand for Spanish exhibitors in the Riviera 7 area (booth R7.J11) and an exclusive area within the Seaview Producers Hub (Riviera 9), more oriented towards projects co-production and financing, Audiovisual from Spain’s main commitment for this key event focuses on the organisation of numerous networking activities to promote and generate new business opportunities for its companies.

Co-production meeting with Canada and first breakfast for buyers

Spain & Canada: focus on Coproduction: building on the success of last year’s partnership, Audiovisual from Spain is once again joining forces with Telefilm Canada for a special event on the morning of Monday 16. This will feature bilateral pitching sessions open to projects of all genres looking for international co-production partners. Participating production companies will be able to meet with representatives from each country in a series of pre-scheduled meetings based on the interests expressed by the companies themselves during the registration process. In preparation for the activity, a training webinar has been held to explain first-hand the options, challenges and advantages of co-producing between the two countries.

Spain Brand New Content – Breakfast: Tuesday 17 will host the first edition of this invitation-only sales meeting specifically designed for international buyers interested in learning about new Spanish content releases that have just been launched on the market.

On the following day, the Seaview Producers Hub terrace will be the venue for The Audiovisual from Spain Networking Lunch, an invitation extended to partners and clients of Spanish companies who will have the opportunity to learn about the latest titles of outstanding productions.

Spanish content and professionals top the event’s agenda

The world premiere of one of the most eagerly awaited Spanish tv series will take centre stage on the eve of the market’s opening: the first episode of ‘Zorro’ (10 x 52’), produced by Secuoya Studios for Prime Video & Amazon Studios, will be showcased on Sunday afternoon in the presence of the main cast, including leading star Miguel Bernardeu (‘Elite’). Additionally, Movistar Plus+ International will screen the first episode of its new series ‘La Mesías’, created, produced and directed by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo (Los Javis).

Spanish content also enjoys international recognition with several national titles receiving nominations in both the Diversify TV Awards and Content Innovation Awards, whose awards ceremonies will be held during the market.

Spanish talent and production companies will once again be very present in the official conference programme: Sara Fernández-Velasco, CEO of iZen (who announced last January the joint venture Cacao & Cía. with Non Stop), will share her view on the close ties that the European and American continents share; Plano a Plano, through its Director of Business Development Álvaro Benítez, will be one of the companies participating in a panel dedicated to the challenges faced by independent prodcos. In addition, Laura Fernández Espeso, CEO of The Mediapro Studio, will give one of the prestigious keynotes of the Media Mastermind programme, dedicated to the most influential voices in the industry.
