The planned launch of Venu last year was delayed due to a legal dispute with Fubo’s streaming business.

On Friday, ESPN, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery announced they were discontinuing Venu, a sports streaming service they had been developing together, which had already faced delays from its initial launch timeline.

The platform was intended to offer sports content from all three companies as a mid-tier option for cord-cutters seeking more than just basic sports coverage.

Although the legal dispute with Fubo was recently resolved, other companies had signaled their opposition to Venu, further complicating its rollout.

In the meantime, new alternatives have emerged in the ever-changing market of services catering to former cable subscribers, many of whom were part of Venu’s target audience.

“In a constantly evolving market, we determined that it was better to meet the changing demands of sports fans by focusing on existing products and distribution channels,” ESPN, Fox, and WBD said in a joint statement on Friday.

For ESPN, this means doubling down on its own streaming service, which is expected to launch later this year.
