The licensing agreement includes three Spanish-language productions: the telenovela Rock Story, and the series Merciless and The Cariocas.
Globo, the largest content producer in Latin America, and Pluto TV, the leading free ad-supported streaming TV service that offers curated original channels and on-demand content, have signed a strategic licensing agreement for three top-tier Spanish productions: telenovela Rock Story -already available on Pluto TV in more than 18 Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries in Latin America-, and the series Merciless and The Cariocas, which will be included in the platform’s catalog for Latin America.
“The agreement involving the licensing of successful productions to Pluto TV is in line with Globo’s strategy of consistently increasing relevance in the entertainment market, bringing robust and diversified productions to the most varied audiences, in all windows and platforms, along with strategic partners. On this matter, the deal further boosts even more our efforts to generate and maintain the connection with Latin audiences, wherever they are”, comments Angela Colla, Globo’s Head of International Sales.
“We are committed to expanding our global reach by investing in global content, distribution, and market expansion,” said Eduardo Arias, Content Partnership Sr. Director Pluto TV Latin America. “Adding all of Globo’s incredible content leads us in that direction, and we are excited to add even more premium content to Pluto TV in LatAm.”
The telenovela Rock Story will show the trajectory of former rock star Guilherme Santiago (Vladimir Brichta), who was a huge success in the 1990s and is now trying to return to the charts. He is imperfect, inconsistent, but generous. He will be tested by fate with the opportunity to transform his life when he discovers he has a teenage son and finds an unexpected new love. The plot was written by Maria Adelaide Amaral and directed by Dennis Carvalho.
In the series Merciless, the cold and calculating serial killer Edu (Bruno Gagliasso) lives a double life. He is seen by everyone as an ordinary, attractive, and affectionate young man, when in reality he is a cruel criminal who kills for pure pleasure. He deceives everyone, including his girlfriend Ray (Débora Falabella), a romantic fashion producer. The mystery of the killer’s identity is being investigated by forensic psychiatrist Vera (Luana Piovani) and by police chief Dias (Marcelo Novaes), who lead a task force dedicated to investigating these types of crimes. The series is written by the award-winning Gloria Perez and directed by Mauro Mendonça Filho.
The romantic series The Cariocas depicts ten independent stories about the daily lives of different women in Rio de Janeiro and the challenges they face. A mix of sensuality and sophistication, The Cariocas offers viewers an innovative look at two of Rio de Janeiro’s most famous attractions – beauty and women. In each episode, we follow the story of one woman as she navigates her life, her relationships, and her connection with a specific neighborhood in the Marvelous City. The series, written by Euclydes Marinho and directed by Daniel Filho, features stars like Paola Oliveira, Adriana Esteves, Grazi Massafera, Fernanda Torres, Sonia Braga, among others.
