Productions such as Rebirth and Justice: Misconduct, and the offer of scripted and unscripted formats are the highlights of the company’s participation in the international event.

In its outing in the LA Screenings Independents, an international event that will be held in May in California, USA, Globo will showcase major highlights in its portfolio such as the release of two new productions, in addition to offering scripted and unscripted formats for the international market.

One of these highlights will be the release of the current prime time telenovela in Brazil, Rebirth. Written by Benedito Ruy Barbosa, who made history in Brazilian dramaturgy in 1993, it remains timeless with its mysteries, dramas, loves, revenge tales and legends – as does the latest success Pantanal, by the same author, which topped the Brazilian airtime charts and has already been licensed for 130 territories. The authors grandson, Bruno Luperi, also signs the reboot of another work by Benedito, with artistic direction by Gustavo Fernández, captivating a new generation of Brazilians.

The telenovelas cast includes household names from Brazilian TV such as Humberto Carrão (All the Flowers), Marcos Palmeira (Pantanal), Duda Santos (The Path), as well as Antonio Calloni (A Trick of Fate), Vladimir Brichta (A Mothers Love), Juliana Paes (Pantanal), Irandhir Santos (Pantanal), Enrique Diaz (A Mothers Love), Sophie Charlotte (All the Flowers), among others.

Globo will also bring Justice: Misconduct to the international market, a plot by Manuela Dias with artistic direction by Gustavo Fernández, from Pantanal and Rebirth. With 28 episodes, Justice: Misconduct follows four characters who end up in prison and are set free seven years later, attempting to resume their lives in search of justice that goes beyond logic and legal prosecution. The first work in the anthological series Justice: life is not fair, launched in 2016, was nominated for an International Emmy in the Best Actress category, with Adriana Esteves, and Best Dramatic Series.

The new plot features a large ensemble cast such as Juan Paiva (In Your Place and Rebirth), Murilo Benício (Pantanal), Belize Pombal (Rebirth), Nanda Costa (A Mothers Love ), Paolla Oliveira (Edge of Desire), Marco Ricca (Orphans of a Nation), Danton Mello (In Your Place) and Alice Wegmann (Rensga Hits). Other productions showcased at the event will be: the telenovelas Land of Desire and Crossed Paths; and the Globoplay Originals series The End, created by Fernanda Torres and Living On A Razors Edge, the first and only Brazilian series to be exhibited at Canneseries.

Another new feature will be the offer of “unscripted” formats, where different variety and reality shows that were part of Globos schedule will be on sale to the market. Among the first offers are Family Size and PopStar. In Family Size, several celebrities and their families face each other in fun games that unveil past memories, details and curiosities unknown to the audience. Popstar is a musical reality show where professionals from different areas of showbiz have the chance to fulfill their dream of competing to become the next Popstar.

Furthermore, Globo will keep investing in the business model of selling “scripted” formats, one of the biggest examples of which was the agreement with producer Ay Yapım, involving the adaptation of the telenovela Brazil Avenue. The highlighted productions during the LA Screenings Independents will be telenovelas The Favorite and The Clone, as well as more recent titles such as All the Flowers; The Other Side of Paradise; and Total Dreamer; winner of the International Emmy in 2016 for Best Telenovela, Hidden Truths; and Justice: life is not fair.

Other special features at the event are the launch of content portfolio for AVOD platforms with telenovelas and series for various audiences, and also the relaunch of past hits with the Classics & Big Hits project, which will highlight the events great timeless Brazilian works such as India – A Love Story, Precious Pearl, Anything for Love and Brave Woman.

“We are excited to attend another LA Screenings Independents, and we believe that what we brought this year will certainly add to our international portfolio and we hope that viewers outside Brazil may appreciate each production just as much as Brazilians appreciate them”, says Gabriel Bonelli, Head of International Sales. “We believe that Brazil has a strong background when it comes to television entertainment, and that is exactly why bringing the formats to this event is of great importance to us. We will hold talks with our partners about the topic and show what we have in this model”, he adds.
