Catalan Films was present at Cannes to increase the participation and co-production opportunities of the Catalan audiovisual industry

Promoting the audiovisual content of Catalonia around the world, Catalan Films was present at Miptv 2023, an obligatory stop within the calendar of activities carried out in order to increase the participation of the Spanish region’s industry in international markets.

“We try to cover all audiovisual sectors and we do everything from film markets to television markets, and not only markets, but also spaces that are professional and useful for our companies,” explained Joan Ruiz, coordinator of Catalan Films, in dialogue with ttv, in Cannes.

“We have a number of actions throughout the year that are quite important in international terms and we try to cover the needs that companies may have, from issues of exporting their content and how to finance themselves,” he added.

Looking ahead, Ruiz spoke about the business opportunities that arise with Latin American countries: “The relationship with Latin America is natural for us,” said the executive. “Our companies co-produce a lot with the region. We have a stable relationship with many audiovisual festivals, but also with markets such as VentanaSur or the BAM in Bogotá.”

The same happens with MipCancun, where Ruiz assured Catalan Films has detected unique opportunities for animations: “We have detected that for children’s animation companies, and Catalonia is a very interesting and strong pole in this regard, MipCancun is a very natural market in which to do business”.
