After the show’s success at the beginning of the year, Mediaset Spain signed a deal with Banijay to renew the format for two more seasons, as revealed by the Spanish press.

Released on January 9 without further pretense, La isla de las tentaciones (the Spanish version of Temptation Island) became a true phenomenon on Spanish TV this year.

The reality show, which returned to Spain after 15 years, achieved impressive ratings on Teleinco and Cuatro (Mediaset Spain) and a great impact on social networks and popular culture. Its finale, broadcast on Cuatro, was the most viewed show of the day in Spain with an impressive 29.9% share and more than 3.6 million viewers.

And with these numbers it also became the most watched program in the history of Cuatro.

It is not surprising that Mediaset has decided to renew the format and, according to El Confidential Digital, the renewal will be for two seasons.

“Mediaset sources confirm that the agreement with Banijay includes the order for two new editions to the producer. And work is underway. Pre-production has already started, with an internet casting that will serve to select the contestants for the next two installments”, the website said.

La isla de las tentaciones is based on the French Temptation Island format by Banijay Rights.

It follow engaged couples at a crucial moment in their relationship, where they must mutually decide if they are ready to commit to each other for the rest of their lives, or if they should go their separate ways.

Together, the couples travel to an island where they are joined by 20 single men and women. There, they live the “single life” on a test that is intended to help answer the most difficult questions about their relationship.

The format has already been adapted in more than 20 countries, including Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Brazil, France, Germany, and Finland, and has been starring in an international revival since last year.

In addition to Spain, Banijay has already confirmed conversations to bring the format back to Latin America.
