Lin and Netflix previously worked together on projects, including the Oscar-nominated film The Two Popes and the live-action series Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Netflix announced the appointment of Dan Lin as the new head of the Film Division to replace Scott Stuber, who held the position until a few days ago. Lin is a film industry veteran and one of the producers of the hit mystery thriller Sherlock Holmes and the Lego movies.

The producer will start April 1 as president of Netflix Film and will report to Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer. The announcement comes more than a month after Netflix announced that Stuber would be leaving the streaming service to start his own media company.

The company said that Lin and Netflix previously worked together on projects, including the Oscar-nominated film The Two Popes and the live-action series Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Lin, who will leave his Los Angeles, California-based production company Rideback, said that Netflix had contacted him many times about joining the streaming video company.

Before founding Rideback, Lin was a senior production executive at Warner Bros. Pictures, where he worked for eight years overseeing the production of films such as director Martin Scorsese’s Oscar-winning drama The Departed.
