After the success of its first installment, which reached more than 35 million households in its first 28 days, the Argos Comunicación series was renewed by Netflix for a second season.

Just over a month after the premiere of its first episode on July 15, Netflix confirmed that its original Mexican series, Oscuro deseo, will return with a second season.

The announcement was made by its protagonists, Maite Perroni and Erik Hayser, who in a comedy tone, playing presenters of a fake newscast, confirmed the news.

“A second wave of Oscuro deseo is coming. 100% confirmed,” said Perroni. “We all need answers and I’m sure we will find them,” Hayser added.

Hayser also noted that the first season of the series reached more than 35 million homes worldwide. Netflix had already confirmed the number in a statement, revealing that “the first season seduced 35 million households worldwide in its first 28 days, making it the hottest first season (non-English) on Netflix to date”.

“In addition, the series was in the Top 10 of 77 countries such as Brazil, Colombia, France, Spain and the US,” they added.

Written by Leticia López Margalli and directed by Pedro P. Ybarra and Kenya Márquez, Oscuro deseo is a production by Argos Comunicación for Netflix. In addition to Maite Perroni and Erik Hayser, the series also stars Alejandro Speitze, Jorge Poza, María Fernanda Yepes and Regina Pavón.

Grace Ugalde, Verónica Velasco, Epigmenio Ibarra and Natasha Ybarra-Klor are both its executive producers.

An erotic thriller, the series focuses on a university professor (Maite Perroni) who falls in love with a man 15 years younger than her (Alejandro Speitzer) and who for the first time in her life ventures into an extramarital relationship, which will change her marriage forever.

It is the second collaboration between Netflix and Argos Comunicación after Ingobernable, a series released in 2017 and which ran for two seasons.
