The deal reinforces Globo’s position in the format rights market, reaffirming the universality of its catalog for adaptations across different territories and cultures.

The first international version of the acclaimed drama Intolerantes is already in production, following a format sales agreement between Alpha TV and Globo. Produced by Primavisione, the local adaptation is directed by Alexandros Avranas.

Created and written by Lucas Paraizo and directed by Luisa Lima, Intolerantes follows two neighboring couples who become embroiled in a conflict after a fight between their teenage children, triggering an escalation of tension with absurd consequences. What begins as a trivial disagreement grows into a broader exploration of how far people can go when dialogue breaks down. In Brazil, the franchise’s success was reinforced by the premiere of its third season this year.

To follow the start of production, writer Lucas Paraizo visited the set in Greece: “I was on the set of the Greek version of Intolerantes, a series I created, and had the pleasure of watching the filming of one of the most important scenes of the first season: the scene in which the characters Cibele and Wando confront each other over their children’s fight. I had the pleasure of witnessing the enthusiasm of the cast, the technical crew and director Alexandros Avranas, whom I have admired since he directed the feature film Miss Violence and won the Best Director award at the 2013 Venice Film Festival. I’m curious to see this new version of the series and I’m sure it will be a success in Greece, as it was in Brazil, countries that have a great deal in common.”

The deal reinforces Globo’s position in the format rights market, reaffirming the universality of its catalog for adaptations across different territories and cultures. Recently, the company saw local versions of the telenovelas Senhora do Destinoand Páginas da Vida air in Peru and Portugal, respectively.

“The start of production of the Greek version of Intolerantes is another important step in our international formats strategy. The partnership with Alpha TV demonstrates the strength of Brazilian storytelling that transcends borders. At the heart of Lucas Paraizo’s script are human relationships, and we are excited to see how this story will resonate with Greek audiences,” said Angela Colla, Globo’s Director of International Business.

“Our adaptation of Intolerantes underscores Alpha TV’s strong commitment to bringing top-tier dramas and cinematic quality to the Greek market. Partnering with a global powerhouse like Globo provides us with the creative foundation to produce something truly exceptional. Lucas Paraizo has written a narrative that directly reflects modern society, showing how quickly community bonds can break down when people stop talking to one another. Under the visionary direction of Alexandros Avranas and led by a phenomenal cast, we are elevating this remarkable Brazilian psychological drama into a high-end production with a distinctive cultural identity. It is a privilege to collaborate with Globo to bring new life to a story that is as globally relevant as it is locally moving,” said Christos Kompos, Alpha TV’s Director of Programming.

Like a Lie stars Nikos Polyderopoulos (The Tattoo) as Peter, a single father who after being abandoned by his wife, maintains a lie to his daughter that her mother is away traveling, but will one day return.
