The dating reality format will be adapted in Brazil as a Prime Video Original, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Formata and directed by renowned Brazilian producer Boninho.
CJ ENM is expanding its international formats business with the arrival of EXchange in Latin America. The hit South Korean dating reality format will be adapted in Brazil under the title Love Transit as a Prime Video Original, with Amazon MGM Studios and Formata producing. Production is set to begin in September in São Paulo and Campos do Jordão.
The Brazilian adaptation will be directed by renowned producer Boninho, one of Brazil’s leading names in television entertainment. The project marks the format’s expansion beyond Asia, following its Japanese adaptation, also titled Love Transit, which has already released three seasons on Prime Video.
EXchange is an original dating reality format from TVING in which ex-couples live together under the same roof without initially revealing to the other participants who used to date whom. As they revisit their past relationships and form new connections, the participants must decide whether to rekindle an old romance or start a new relationship.
The original format premiered in South Korea in 2021 and quickly became one of TVING’s most popular dating reality shows. Its first season recorded the highest number of viewing hours among the platform’s entertainment programs at the time, while Season 2 ranked first in weekly contribution to paid subscribers for 16 consecutive weeks.
Season 3 increased its impact on new subscriber acquisition by 74 times compared with the first season on its premiere day, while Season 4 ranked first in weekly contribution to TVING’s paid subscriptions for 17 consecutive weeks, from its premiere through its finale.
Beyond Korea, EXchange has also earned international recognition. The format was nominated for Best Original Programme by a Streamer at the 2021 Asian Academy Creative Awards, while EXchange 3 received nominations at the 2024 Asian Television Awards and Asian Academy Creative Awards.
With the Brazilian adaptation, CJ ENM is taking another step in the international expansion of its IP, partnering with local producers and Prime Video to bring the format to a new audience in Latin America.
“EXchange brings together ex-couples who have broken up, giving them an opportunity to look back on their past relationships and find new love,” said Sebastian Kim, Head of the Content Business Unit at CJ ENM. He added that, following the Japanese adaptation, the company expects the Brazilian version to reinterpret the format for local audiences through Brazilian culture and emotions.
CJ ENM said it will continue expanding its global formats business by adapting its original IP through partnerships with international platforms and production companies.
