After an spectacular week at Cannes, OGM Universe continues hugging the spotlight with the launch of a new title, the high-end Turkish drama Deep in Love (Taşacak Bu Deniz).

Produced by OGM Pictures in association with TRT 1, the series “redefines epic romance for a new generation, blending mythology, passion, and destiny against the raw beauty of the Black Sea”.

Created by Ayşe Ferda Eryılmaz and Nehir Erdem, and directed by Çağrı Bayrak, Deep in Love brings together Ulaş Tuna Astepe, Deniz Baysal, Burak Yörük, and Ava Z. Yaman in a story that bridges the mythical and the modern.

In the drama, Adil Koçari, the proud leader of the mountains, returns to reclaim the land and the love he lost, but a single gunshot from Esme Furtuna should have ended everything. Instead, it all begins again. Their forbidden love ignites a storm of vengeance and desire, echoing an ancient legend where the mountain and the sea can never touch, yet never stop reaching for one another.

Long ago, the sea maiden Furtuna and the mountain boy Koçari defied their clans to love each other. Since that day, the villages of Koçari and Furtuna have lived divided, bound by blood, pride, and an ancient curse.

Five new series have entered the catalog of Turkish Radio and Television (TRT) in recent months, titles dominated by historical dramas, epics, and modern dramas. All have had very good results in the Turkish public broadcaster and have come to LA Screenings with great potential to position themselves also in Latin America.

Mustafa Ilbeyli, TRT’s Director of Advertising, told ttvnews that they had brought exciting fresh content to Los Angeles. “We are very excited about this content, especially some that have had good international results; even before its launch in Turkey, we have made sales.”

The TRT executive highlighted historical dramas such as Saladin Ayyubi, a historical figure well known to Turks and the Muslim community worldwide. “This is why it has garnered great attention,” he assured.

Another title that is doing very well for TRT is another historical drama, Fatih: Sultan of Conquests. “He is also a well-known character who conquered Istanbul. This story is doing very well in Turkey and our international sales,” Ilbeyli assured.

Regarding the rest of TRT‘s catalog, Ilbeyli noted that they have something for every genre. “We have children’s content, documentaries, movies, and series, obviously. In terms of children’s content, we have a big library. TRT Kids Channel is the most watched channel in Turkey, but we also have all the other international channels,” he said.

tabii is Coming to Latin America

TRT recently celebrated the first anniversary of its tabii streaming platform, which is doing very well in Turkey and aims to turn into an international platform.

In this regard, Ilbeyli said that tabii will be marketed in the Middle East and North Africa first and then move through different regions and phases. “But we have already started to dub our content in Spanish, Urdu, English, and Arabic even before the platform’s launch. And almost all of our content is ready. And, of course, it will also come to the Latin American region, with around 30 originals, and then some more is going to be added in phases as well,” he concluded.

After launching as a free service, has the business model already changed or can you share how it will change in the future?
In Türkiye, tabii is presently offered as an AVOD service. However, in the future, we are exploring various packaging options, including ad-supported and premium subscription-based (SVOD) models for the local market. For our global expansion, we plan to go to market with SVOD packages.

What territories have access to tabii? What are its expansion plans?
The full streaming service is available in Turkey via the tabii app or tabii.com website. For global audiences, it is initially accessible via third-party platforms such as YouTube and Roku, at an affordable subscription fee in multiple languages. We will initiate our beta version in select markets during Q4, followed by a broader launch in Q1 of 2024. In the initial phase, our marketing efforts will be focused on the MENA region with other markets to follow later in 2024.

What kind of localization tools does the platform offer for non-Turkish speakers?

The Turkish broadcaster’s new streamer will launch in Turkey within a month and internationally within a year, with Europe and the Americas as its first target regions and plans to launch around 30 original contents.

TRT, Turkey’s largest national broadcaster, announced the launch of its own streaming service during the first day of Miptv.

Mustafa Ilbeyli, Director of Advertising at TRT, confirmed to ttvnews that the new streamer will launch in Turkey before the elections, so within a month or so.

Additionally, the service is going to start rolling out internationally within the next three to four months.

“All of our content we will be subbed and dubbed in English, Urdu, Spanish and Arabic, so those are mainly the markets that we want to reach out to,” the executive said to ttvnews. “We have a lot of viewers in Europe, in the MENA region, Pakistan, India, as well as Latin America and North America. So those will be the first regions we will want to reach. In Latin America, the service will be available maybe within a year or so.”

In terms of content, the executive explained new streamer will have “all of the TRT content that’s readily available and loved all around the world, plus another 30 original contents for the platform.”

“We’ll have all of our series, documentaries and kids’ content, and international coproductions as well,” he added.

As far as models go, the executive revealed the streamer will launch under an AVOD model in Turkey, with hybrid SVOD-AVOD models for the international market.
