The event will be held in partnership with the startup Polen, which has developed a recycling credit based on the decentralization platform

The Sports Summit São Paulo, a meeting point for the world’s sports industry, will hold its 2024 edition with great news: the event will rely on blockchain to be carbon neutral and zero waste.

To make this happen, it will be partnering with cleantech Polen, a startup that has developed a reverse logistics credit based on blockchain.

“The Sports Summit São Paulo 2024’s concern for the environment, sustainability and proper solid waste management, in the way it is being handled, shows that there is a strong commitment not only to the environment and ESG guidelines, but to conveying this message and raising awareness among the people and institutions taking part in the event,” commented Renato Paquet, CEO of Polen.

“The environmental compensation carried out for the Sports Summit São Paulo starts from the moment the speakers board their flights to Europe. We don’t just stop at the event,” he adde.

The reverse logistics that Polen is applying to the event work in an innovative way, allowing event participants to access the QR Codes provided and check out the entire process: from carbon neutralization to waste management, which will be sent to cooperatives in São Paulo. In addition, the use of blockchain technology provides greater reliability, transparency and assurance that sustainable practices are being effectively implemented, precisely because of this traceability that is applied and available for anyone to check.

“Addressing these issues makes all the difference and with the size of the Sports Summit we couldn’t leave sustainability out. Bringing this kind of action and knowledge to as many people as possible is one of our objectives and we found in Polen what we had in mind,” says Fernando Young, CEO of the event.

The reverse logistics credit market, which is gaining more and more ground in sectors of the Brazilian economy, works in a similar way to carbon credits. Companies that dispose of packaging can offset the waste they put into the environment by buying reverse logistics credits, like Polen’s, for example.

In the company’s business model, each token generated is equivalent to 1 kilo of material offset in its blockchain system. The cleantech then certifies the waste sorting process in cooperatives and waste managers, audits all the licenses applicable to the operation and guarantees the traceability of the recycled material for proof required by the National Solid Waste Policy (PNRS).

The Sports Summit São Paulo is an international event that takes place every year in Mexico, Argentina and, above all, Brazil, bringing together the local sports industries with the world and acting as a platform for connecting all sports and key players in the sports industry: spreading knowledge, consolidating and announcing trends and, especially, generating business opportunities.

In 2023, Sports Summit events were attended by brands such as: WSL, NFL, NBA, UFC, CBF, La Liga, Bundesliga, Liga Portugal, Liga Série A, FIFA, COB, Brazilian Paralympic Committee, Globo, SporTV, Live Mode and Cazé TV. The event was also attended by international athletes and other renowned organizations.
