Dynamo is developing the new series with Pantaya, who is distributing the series in the US, with SPT to serve as international distributor. Production is set to begin later this month.

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and Dynamo today announced a distribution deal for a drama/thriller series entitled Cannabica.

Dynamo is developing Cannabica with Pantaya who is distributing the series in the US, with SPT to serve as international distributor. Production is set to begin later this month.

The collaboration marks a first-time alliance between SPT and Dynamo. Cannabica aims to take a fresh look at the future of the cannabis industry from a different and modern perspective.

“We’re excited to partner for the first time with Dynamo, a prolific and successful production company in the region, and to bring a series with an A-list cast to market that talks about the perception of success and failure from the point of view of three young adults set in the world of medicinal marijuana, which we have not yet seen on television before in Latin America,” said Selina Nederhand, SVP, Content Strategy and Acquisitions, SPT.

“We hope this is the first of many projects together, as SPT continues to distribute the best content to our audiences throughout Latin America and the rest of the world.”

“This first agreement with SPT and Pantaya reflects Dynamo’s strategy of making alliances with the best to continue generating high-quality content and creativity in our productions. Medicinal and recreational legalization in recent years has exploited interest in this type of fiction.” states Andrés Calderón, CEO, Dynamo. “We are very excited to provide the public with a new perspective on cannabis culture,” notes Natalia Echeverri, Creator and Executive Producer.

Cannabica tells the story of Félix, Mariana and Ignacio, three young entrepreneurs, intelligent and ambitious, who bet on a market that has just been legalized in Colombia: medicinal cannabis. Cannabica quickly becomes the dream of every entrepreneur and the envy of their generation. Its founders are the perfect team: Mariana has the land to farm; Ignacio has contacts; and Felix, a unique seed and superior in quality to any other cultivated in Colombia. They are the new face of entrepreneurship in the country and their names are on everyone’s lips.

However, the trio have a secret that haunts them: the company appears to be built on a fatal lie, and Lola, an ambitious journalist, will not rest until she discovers the truth behind Cannabica.

The 10-episode, 45-minute series will star María Elisa Camargo (Tarde te Conocí, El Barón) as Mariana, Carolina Gaitán (Sin Senos Sí Hay Paraíso, El Final del Paraíso, Narcos) as Lola, Juan Pablo Urrego (Distrito Salvaje, El Final del Paraíso, Historia de un crimen: Colmenares) as Ignacio, and Sebastián Eslava (Distrito Salvaje, Narcos, Siempre Bruja) as Félix. The series was created by Natalia Echeverri, executive producer at Dynamo; co-created with director Andrés Beltrán (Distrito Salvaje, Bolívar) and with screenwriter Esteban Orozco, whose screenplay Nomads was selected on the 2019 Black List edition.
