Disney’s new OTT platform, which will arrive in Latin America on August 31, will be launched with up to 66 original productions.

Star+, the new streaming service from The Walt Disney Company Latin America, for general entertainment and sports aimed at the adult audience that launches on August 31, presents 66 new original contents created in and for Latin America.

The proposal expands The Walt Disney Company Latin America’s commitment to talent communities throughout the region, adding more than 130 projects in various Latin American countries and at different stages of production for its Disney+ and Star+ streaming platforms.

Star+ subscribers will be able to access original stories for all tastes, fiction and non-fiction, starring the most renowned artists in the region, exploring the hottest topics in Latin American culture in the tone of drama, comedy, dramatic comedy, thriller, biopic and docu-reality.

In addition, they will have access to the complete collection of successful original film and TV productions, the fruit of the work of The Walt Disney Company Latin America team, sustained for more than 2 decades together with dozens of renowned production houses in the region.

“For more than 20 years we have been developing and producing the best quality original content, thinking about the preferences of the audiences in our region. With the arrival of our original production proposals to Star+, we further strengthen this sustained and strategic commitment to offer stories of local relevance entirely produced in Latin America,” said Diego Lerner, President, The Walt Disney Company Latin America.

“We joined the most prestigious local production companies and expanded the presence of talent in the region to create fiction stories and non-fiction stories on issues and problems specific to our region. Thus, at this moment, they are in different stages of realization. 66 original productions in the main markets of the Latin territory that, added to those of Disney +, exceed the 130 productions in which the Company is currently working,” he concluded.

With a vast cast of more than 130 actresses and actors of great trajectory and recognition, from 8 countries in the region, in Star+ there will be genres, talents and stories for each subscriber.

Dramas:

Productions inspired by realities and stories from different countries across the region: Santa Evita; No fue mi culpa; Impuros (season 3); Limbo… hasta que lo decida; El grito de las mariposas; Diciembre 2001 (working title); a series on the history of the end of slavery in Brazil, set during the birth of the Brazilian American city (title to be confirmed).

Comedies:

Witty, humorous and poignant stories with nuances of local color: El galán. La TV cambió, él no; Los protectores; Máscara contra Caballero; How To Be a Carioca.

Dramedies:

Varied proposals with intriguing twists, moments of humor and recognizable characters from the local daily life: Terapia alternativa; El Encargado; Planners; Bellas Artes.

Thrillers:

Dark stories that invite the viewer to immerse themselves in captivating plots, full of unexpected courses such as: Insânia; Horario estelar.

Biopics:

Stories inspired by the exploits of Latin American sports and popular culture figures, including: Pancho Villa. El Centauro del Norte; O Rei da TV; Coppola, el representante; María Bonita (working title); Ringo.

Docurealities:

New season of Bios. Vidas que marcaron la tuya, with episodes devoted to: Andrés Calamaro -whose story is guided by the Argentine singer Nathy Peluso-; Mercedes Sosa -with a story guided by the singer Abel Pintos-; Aterciopelados -with the guided tour by Li Saumet, singer of the Bomba Estéreo group-; the bands Titãs and Os Paralamas do Sucesso; former soccer player and coach Hugo Sánchez; and actress Sofía Vergara. At the same time, a new season of the original Alerta Aeropuerto is in development that follows the work of the security forces in the most important airports in the world.

Rediscovering Stories:

Star+ is a new opportunity to discover and/or relive complete seasons of successful series and all the films that are part of the creative, development, production and distribution path of the The Walt Disney Company Latin America team, which will be incorporated as gradually to the platform. They are exciting stories like Hasta que te conocí; Sitiados; El César; El host; Monzón; El General Naranjo; El Secreto de Selena; Aquí en la tierra; all seasons of Bios and Alerta Aeropuerto.
