Talpa’s nostalgic, feel-good music competition The Tribute – Battle of the Bands is set to make its way to Germany.
The renowned show has been ordered by Seven. One Entertainment Group.
This fall, a total of five episodes will be produced in Talpa’s production hub in the Netherlands by Cheerio Entertainment in collaboration with Talpa Entertainment Productions. The casting to find the very best tribute bands in the country has already begun. The Tribute – The Show of the Legends, after the original The Tribute – Battle of the Bands, will be broadcasted by SAT.1 in 2024.
After A Quiz for You and The Floor, this marks the third collaboration this year between Talpa and Seven. One Entertainment Group.
It’s the first commission for the series outside the Netherlands where the first two seasons were a big success on SBS6. With an average market share of 14,9% in the 25-59 key demo for the second series, the show outperformed with more than 50% above channel average. Additional to that, the second season topped off with three live tribute concerts in one of the biggest concert halls in the country that were completely sold out. SBS6 has already announced a third season for 2024.
Sebastian van Barneveld, Talpa’s Director of International Distribution: “It’s great to see this nostalgic, feel-good music competition travel. The show brings generations together, and it’s the ultimate tribute to some of the best national and international bands around. It’s a real treat for the viewers. Also, the commission underscores our capacity to deliver high-quality, valuable content at an attractive price point, all facilitated at our production hub in the Netherlands.”
Seven. One Entertainment Group Head of Development Hannes Hiller: “The idea behind The Tribute is as simple as it is great: inspiring musicians cover the greatest hits of immortal musicians. SAT.1 viewers hear one hit after the other in The Tribute. After The Floor and Murmel Mania, The Tribute is already the third big show idea from the deal with John de Mol’s Talpa that SAT.1 is implementing for the next few months. It rocks!”
About The Tribute
The Tribute – Battle of the Bands features 11 tribute bands giving their all as they try to recreate their favourite band’s hits. Each band must try to replicate the sound and voice of the original song as closely as possible. A professional jury of three will judge each performance, along with a joint fourth jury member that’s comprised of 100 music experts whose average score counts as one. They give an individual grade, displaying their average on The Stairway to Heaven. The greener the stairway, the higher the grade. This creates a ranking of the bands, and the band that comes in last has to leave the competition. The finale starts with six bands. At the halfway point of the finale, the four bands left all win a unique prize that money can’t buy: they’ll get to perform at a sold-out tribute concert in one of the biggest concert halls in the Netherlands. The only question is: who, as the winner of the finale, will get to be on stage the longest and perform the most songs? Who is the best tribute band? The Tribute – Battle of the Bands is the ultimate tribute to some of the best national and international bands around.
