“We are not in talks about a merger between Televisa Group and Univision Communications”, they said in a statement, regarding Bloomberg’s recent report.

US platform Bloomberg published a report claiming Televisa and Univision were in the process of negotiations for a potential merger.

The news caused a stir in the industry and forced Televisa to deny the information a few hours later.

“Grupo Televisa is aware of certain press reports about a possible operation with Univision. We are not in talks about a merger between Grupo Televisa, S.A.B. and Univision Communications, Inc.,” they explained.

“Over the past few years, both companies have sought different ways to collaborate more closely in an effort to expand their successful partnership and achieve additional efficiencies and benefits for both companies,” they added.

Nonetheless, they acknowledged talks to combine “certain content assets.”

“The companies are moving forward in conversations about the possibility of combining certain Grupo Televisa content assets with Univision. We cannot assure that said operation will be carried out, nor the terms or the time of said operation”, they explained.

Televisa currently owns 36% of Univision and both companies have a content agreement.
