The Spanish adaptation of C.D.I.: Código de investigación, produced by Mediacrest for RTVM, reached a 5.2% audience share and peaked at 7.8% in its debut.

TelevisaUnivision continues to expand its format catalog internationally with the premiere of La huella del crimen on Telemadrid, the Spanish adaptation of C.D.I.: Código de investigación. The program, produced by Mediacrest for RTVM, debuted with a 5.2% audience share, above the network’s 4.8% prime-time average.

The format also reached a peak audience share of 7.8% during its broadcast and showed an upward trend, rising from 4.2% at the start to 6.5% at the end.

Hosted by journalist Alfonso Egea, La huella del crimen reconstructs eight high-profile cases from Spanish criminal history through testimonies, archival footage, expert analysis and immersive recreations produced using artificial intelligence.

The production marks the arrival in Spain of a TelevisaUnivision-owned format that has already demonstrated its adaptability in other markets. The company presented C.D.I.: Código de investigación at Mipcom 2025 as part of its strategy to drive the international expansion of its intellectual property.

“C.D.I.: Código de Investigación is a clear example of how we want to grow our IP: test the formula in our core markets and then scale it internationally,” said Guillermo Borensztein, SVP of Content Licensing at TelevisaUnivision. The executive added that the company expects to announce new adaptations in Europe soon.

In Spain, Mediacrest adapted the format for Telemadrid, incorporating artificial intelligence into the recreations of the cases. According to Cristian Liarte, CEO of Mediacrest, the goal was to preserve the rigor of the original concept while developing a distinctive identity for the Spanish version.

The international expansion of C.D.I.: Código de investigación also includes broadcasts of the original version in Uruguay, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Canada, extending the format’s reach beyond Mexico and the United States.
