International distributor Electric Entertainment once again attended LA Screenings to boost the international reach of its catalog of productions, which continues its search for new screens and partners in Latin America.
Leading the catalog is The Librarians, “perhaps Electric’s best-known title,” noted Raul Piña, Director of International Distribution and Marketing for the distributor, in an interview with ttvnews from the event in Los Angeles.
“We have the three films, plus the two seasons of the series,” he said, revealing, “And now we’re making a new one.”
The Librarians, the executive explained, has been very successful in the US, something he hopes to replicate in Latin America, along with other titles like Leverage: Redemption and The Ark, which also have multiple seasons.
“In addition, we have One Big Happy Family and the new film, O Horizon, which we just acquired,” Piña added.
Starring Oscar nominees Maria Bakalova and David Strathairn, O Horizon had its world premiere at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, where it won the Jury Prize for Best Film.
It tells the story of a young neuroscientist (Bakalova) who experiences a new and exciting romance and a groundbreaking discovery in her career, amidst the recent loss of her father (Strathairn). When an emerging technology suddenly allows her to speak to him again, her life is turned upside down. Emmy Award-winning director Madeleine Rotzler crafts a magical realism fable for our modern age, reflecting on our relationships amidst ever-evolving technologies with warmth and humor.
Beyond the content, the executive highlighted the growth of their FAST channels in the US, one in English and one in Spanish, and the launch of a new app with a redesigned look. “The channels are growing significantly. The English channel, in particular, has enormous reach because it’s available on all the major platforms. And the Spanish channel is also available on several platforms,” he noted.
