*with reporting by Carolina Mussio and Ana Paula Carreira from Cannes, France.

Turkish star Burak Özçivit was among the special guests at Mipcom Cannes 2026, where ATV Distribution invited the actor to promote Land of the Sun (Güneşin Doğduğu Yer), one of its leading new dramas for the international market.

On Monday, October 12, Özçivit visited ATV’s stand at the Palais des Festivals, meeting international buyers, industry executives and members of the press. That evening, he joined the company’s exclusive dinner in Cannes, where ATV presented Land of the Sun and Different Lives to international clients, with the participation of actors and producers from both series.

During the event, Özçivit spoke with ttv about his approach to Kenan Kozan, the protagonist of Land of the Sun, and why passionate, often impossible love stories remain central to his career.

“I already knew what I needed to focus on [when building the performance]. I also drew on my previous experience. I’ve been in this business for more than 20 years now, and I know how to understand and analyze a character. I focused on those emotions I’ve explored in the past to bring Kenan to life,” he explained.

With a career spanning two decades, Özçivit has become one of Turkey’s most internationally recognized actors, starring in major productions such as Magnificent Century (Muhteşem Yüzyıl), Lovebird (Çalıkuşu) and Endless Love (Kara Sevda), the latter winner of the 2017 International Emmy Award for Best Telenovela. He also played the title role in the historical drama Kuruluş Osman from 2019 to 2025, further strengthening his international profile before returning to contemporary romantic drama with Land of the Sun.

Produced by TIMSBI Productions for ATV, Land of the Sun premiered in Turkey on September 17 and is distributed internationally by ATV Distribution. The series is produced by Timur Savcı and Burak Sağyaşar, written by Yıldız Tunç and directed by Çağrı Vila Lostuvalı and Çiğdem Bozali.

The drama follows Kenan Kozan, the son of one of Adana’s most powerful families, whose life changes when he falls in love with Leyla Breger, played by Beyza Gümülcine. Their relationship begins in Germany before taking them to Adana, where family loyalties, secrets and betrayal threaten their future together. Kenan’s relationship with Leyla places him between his family’s expectations and his commitment to the woman he loves, a conflict that Özçivit sees as part of a broader emotional thread running through his work.

“The atmosphere and the locations are different, but the emotion is the same as in my previous projects: a man who is passionately in love with a woman,” he said. “When you love someone, do you let them go or do you fight to keep them by your side? That’s the question we’re exploring. Kenan Kozan never lets go of the love of his life. It’s a passionate love. In my previous projects, I’ve also portrayed men who fight to keep the women they love close to them.”

For Özçivit, the emotional appeal of Turkish dramas is closely connected to their ability to portray universal feelings through intense romantic relationships. It is also something he considers when deciding which projects to take on.

“When I choose a project, I always focus on love, and especially on impossible love. I know how much Latin American viewers appreciate this theme of impossible love and how strongly it resonates with them. That’s also why I value these kinds of stories when choosing a project. They’re the kind of stories that connect with audiences in those countries,” he told ttv.

Asked about the message at the heart of Kenan and Leyla’s story, Özçivit pointed to the character’s determination to hold on to the woman he loves: “The message we want to convey through this story is that if you love someone, you should never let them go. You should never give up on that love,” he explained.

Land of the Sun has also delivered encouraging early results in its domestic market. The series ranked first in Turkey’s AB and ABC1 audience categories with its fourth episode, broadcast on Thursday, October 8. In the Total audience category, it ranked third with a 4.27 rating and a 13.62% audience share.

Its premiere on September 17 had previously recorded a 3.91 rating and 13.31% share in the AB category, while reaching a 4.25 rating and 13.50% share among ABC1 viewers, according to figures reported by ATV from Kantar Media.

The series’ early performance provides a domestic backdrop to ATV Distribution’s international promotion of the drama at Mipcom, where Özçivit’s participation brought the story of Kenan and Leyla directly to international buyers.

Different Lives Stars Join ATV’s Mipcom Celebrations

ATV’s Mipcom activities also featured Different Lives stars Rahimcan Kapkap and Elçin Zehra İrem, who attended the distributor’s VIP dinner on Monday, October 12, meeting international buyers, press and media partners. The following day, the actors visited ATV’s stand at the Palais des Festivals, while billboards promoting the series across Cannes helped raise its profile during the market.

The actors expressed their pride in representing a production brought to life by a team of approximately 300 people. They described their participation in Mipcom as a milestone beyond their expectations and welcomed the opportunity to see audiences from different cultures connect with the story.

Produced by NTC Medya, Different Lives explores the contrasting sides of Istanbul through a young cast and a story centered on social differences. The drama is among ATV Distribution’s key titles presented to international buyers at Mipcom 2026.

The company also promoted Land of the Sun, starring Burak Özçivit, at an exclusive dinner for international buyers in Cannes.

*with reporting by Carolina Mussio and Ana Paula Carreira from Cannes, France.

Different Lives is emerging as one of ATV Distribution’s key international titles, with sales spanning 32 countries and strong ratings in Turkey. Produced by NTC Medya, the drama is being showcased alongside TIMSBI Productions’ Land of the Sun as part of ATV’s promotional activities at Mipcom 2026.

On Monday, October 12, ATV brought together international buyers, business partners and industry representatives for an exclusive dinner in Cannes, attended by Land of the Sun star Burak Özçivit and Different Lives actors Rahimcan Kapkap and Elçin Zehra İrem. The cast also participated in promotional activities at ATV’s stand.

“It was a huge event. We hosted three actors from our series in Cannes. Burak Özçivit, the leading actor of Land of the Sun, came and met with everyone. We also had Rahimcan Kapkap and Elçin Zehra İrem from Different Lives. I think everyone had a great time,” Müge Akar, Group Head of Sales and Distribution at ATV Distribution, told ttv during the market.

Land of the Sun (Güneşin Doğduğu Yer) is a TIMSBI Productions drama starring Burak Özçivit as Kenan Kozan. The story follows the son of a powerful family in Adana whose life changes when he falls in love with Leyla Breger, setting the stage for a conflict involving family loyalties, secrets and cultural differences.

“Land of the Sun is produced by TIMSBI Productions, one of the leading producers in Turkey. They previously produced series such as Bitter Lands, Deception and The Trusted, which also aired on ATV. Now they’re back with Land of the Sun,” Akar explained.

“The story, the setting and the overall production are all very well done. It’s a classic telenovela story, combining love, family betrayal and secrets. It has the perfect combination of all those elements,” she added.

ATV’s other major title, Different Lives (Altı Üstü İstanbul), follows Emir, a talented young footballer from a poor Istanbul neighborhood who dreams of lifting his family out of poverty. Joining the club of a powerful businessman brings him into a world of privilege, rivalries and secrets surrounding his brother’s death.

“Different Lives is produced by NTC Medya, which previously made series such as Orphan Flowers, which was very popular in Latin America, and Love and Hate, another successful title. Now they’re producing Different Lives, a very warm neighborhood story that definitely appeals to younger audiences,” Akar said.

“That’s particularly important today. I speak with broadcasters and digital platforms around the world, and everyone wants to attract younger audiences. This is exactly the kind of content that can help them do that.”

“Having well-known actors and actresses always helps. It’s much easier to market a series when you have recognizable names,” she explained.

Different Lives Leads Ratings and Expands International Sales

On Monday, October 12, coinciding with the opening of Mipcom, Different Lives topped Turkey’s television ratings across all three major audience categories: Total, with a 7.51 rating; AB, with 4.80; and ABC1, with 7.05, according to TİAK figures reported by Turkish media.

Meanwhile, Land of the Sun, which premiered on September 17, recorded ratings of 4.27 in Total, 3.49 in AB and 4.43 in ABC1 for its fourth episode, broadcast on October 8.

“Interest has been really high. We’re very happy with these three days at Mipcom, and I think we’ll be announcing many deals for both series after the market,” Akar said.

“In fact, Different Lives is already available in 32 countries. Since it started during the summer, we have more episodes available and we’ve had more time to pitch it to buyers. It’s already available in the Middle East, North Africa and the CIS region, which is a significant success for us,” she said. “I think we’ll be adding many more countries, including for Land of the Sun. I’m expecting a lot of new deals,” Akar concluded.

By Carolina Mussio, with reporting by Ana Paula Carreira from Cannes, France

Mipcom Cannes 2026 held its third day today at the Palais des Festivals — the last for most attendees — with a noticeable decline in the usual bustle of the corridors, signaling an early end to this year’s edition.

This was also reflected in the event’s official figures, revealed by Lucy Smith, Director of RX France’s Entertainment Division, during her traditional closing press conference, which showed a slight decrease in attendance compared to 2025.

Mipcom Cannes 2026 welcomed a total of 10,100 delegates — 500 fewer than last year — including 3,150 buyers, down 150, from 104 countries, compared to 107 in 2025. MipJunior, meanwhile, attracted 600 participants, compared to 700 the previous year.

Despite the somewhat unfavorable figures, Smith emphasized the importance of renewing the market in terms of its focus and its ability to adapt to changes in the industry.

“What is clear is that the industry is going through a period of disruption and a reshaping of the traditional landscape. Digital platforms and creators are becoming key players. Vertical content, microdramas and AI are changing the way content is produced. And that disruption is evident here in Cannes,” she explained.

“Our strategy is to strengthen Mipcom as the leading content market. We’re not moving away from our core business; we’re expanding it in four ways: through brands, AI, vertical content and creators, opening up new business opportunities and sources of IP.”

“Looking ahead to the next edition of Mipcancún, we’re approaching our traditional business with a fresh perspective, giving it the same attention as always while creating new opportunities. The goal is not to reinvent ourselves, but to represent the industry as it is today. Our ambition is to create a more connected ecosystem, bringing together Mipcom, Mipcancún and Mip Talks,” she added.

The next edition of Mipcancún will take place in Mexico from November 17 to 20.

The Latest Announcements and Events on Mipcom’s Third Day

One of the day’s highlights was Globo receiving the Mipcom 2026 SDG Impact Recognition, presented in collaboration with the United Nations, capping off a highly positive edition for the Brazilian media giant, which kicked off its activities with a major showcase on Sunday.

Among the announcements involving renewals, adaptations and partnerships, the return of Avenida Brasil with a new installment stood out. “The day Globo announced that we were going to have Avenida Brasil 2, my phone exploded with messages from international clients who had immediately heard the news. It was incredible,” recalled Pablo Ghiglione, Head of International Sales and Co-productions for the Americas and Asia-Pacific at Globo. “We’re already negotiating in several markets and will have news to share soon. It will certainly be well before the telenovela premieres, because interest is so high. That makes us very happy, and we’re eager to begin working on its distribution.”

Representing the Spanish-speaking market in Cannes, Krakatoa and its sister company Spiritum Entertainment continue to expand the Plim Plim brand internationally while promoting their latest addition, Bumpy. “We’re at the Audiovisual From Spain stand at Mipcom, presenting all our upcoming projects, including the new Plim Plim series and new Bumpy content, which joins the entire universe of content from Spiritum and Krakatoa,” said Cindy Fernández, Licensing Manager for Plim Plim and Bumpy at the group.

Another well-known brand from Argentina, El Reino Infantil, is expanding one of its flagship franchises with the start of production on La Granja de Zenón: The Movie, scheduled for theatrical release in mid-2028. The announcement was made by company CEO Felipe de Stefani during Mipcom, where the company has been holding an intensive schedule of meetings with potential partners to develop new international business. “We’re here at Mipcom in Cannes taking the opportunity to make some important announcements, such as the start of production on our La Granja de Zenón movie, which will be available in theaters in mid-2028,” the executive said.

Also in the children’s content sector, TwelveP Animation presented a diverse catalog of animated series and feature films, led by Tin, Baby Fluffs and Goal!. “Tin combines an exciting cyberpunk universe with a story about individuality, courage and the importance of staying true to yourself, themes that really resonate with teenage audiences,” explained Margarita Shvets, Head of YouTube and Marketing at TwelveP Animation.

Meanwhile, Animotion Media Group with a catalog of more than ten children’s and family IPs, alongside new projects in development and a strategy focused on extending its established franchises into different genres, formats and digital platforms. “We brought a large catalog of kids’ and family IPs, with more than ten properties, as well as several projects in development. We also brought a live-action format based on one of our flagship properties,” said Julia Nikolaeva, General Manager of Animotion Media Group.

Spanish companies also arrived on the French Riviera with extensive scripted catalogs, including the comedy Se tiene que morir mucha gente, the crime drama El castillo and the thriller Matar a un oso, all presented by Movistar Plus. “We’re very happy to bring several titles that are performing very well on our platform,” said Rebeca Aguilar, Head of International Distribution at Movistar Plus.

Other highlights included Marusía: Naval Academy and Olivia, distributed by Mediterráneo Mediaset and represented at Mipcom by Silvia Cotino, recently appointed Director of Sales, Distribution and Fiction at Mediterráneo Mediaset. “I’m very grateful for the trust placed in me by my managers and for the support of a wonderful team. It’s a very young team, and we’re all working in the same direction to give the Mediterráneo and Mediaset brands, and the group’s content, the greatest possible visibility worldwide,” the executive said.

Turkish drama also had its place on the third day, with ATV Distribution anticipating new sales for its two major titles showcased during the event, Land of the Sun and Different Lives. Both series made an impression in Cannes, with their stars participating in presentations, interviews and the traditional gala dinner. According to Müge Akar, ATV’s Group Head of Sales and Distribution, Different Lives is already available in 32 countries.

GoQuest Media, meanwhile, presented Arafta and Kuma, two of its main Turkish drama offerings, alongside a strategy aimed at expanding its production capacity and direct monetization on digital platforms.

In international sales, Beta Film announced deals for its Korean dramas Snow White Must Die and Skam Korea – Fragile: Italy’s Rai and Greece’s ERT acquired the former, while MBC Shahid picked up both titles for the MENA region. Cineflix Rights closed deals for four factual productions, including Deep Water Secrets and The Emily Michelle Project, with buyers in Europe, Canada and Oceania. Meanwhile, Portugal’s APIT and Brazil’s BRAVI renewed and expanded their cooperation agreement for another two years, focusing on coproduction, training and international promotion. ORF-Enterprise also announced the acquisition of worldwide distribution rights to Crème de la Crème, a Finnish comedy-drama produced by Whatever Pictures for Yle.

Thus concludes the third day of Mipcom 2026 at the Palais des Festivals, which will officially close its doors tomorrow, Thursday, leaving behind an edition that sought to innovate by welcoming new players and initiatives, while opening up opportunities to rethink strategies for the event’s future.

The distributor is also expanding the reach of La Favorita, now available in 98 territories.

*with reporting by Carolina Mussio and Ana Paula Carreira from Cannes, France.

With Pure-bred (Pura sangre) sold to 28 territories and La Favorita (La favorita 1922) available in 98, Mediterráneo Mediaset is expanding the international reach of its Spanish scripted catalog. At Mipcom 2026, the company is also showcasing Marusía: Naval Academy (Marusía. Vientos de honor) and Olivia, which is being offered both as a finished series and for local adaptation.

Silvia Cotino was appointed Director of Sales, Distribution and Fiction at Mediterráneo Mediaset in early October, adding responsibility for the group’s scripted productions to her international sales and distribution duties.

“I’ve recently taken on a new role within Mediaset España’s fiction division, adding those responsibilities to my previous work in sales and distribution. I’m very grateful for the trust placed in me by my managers and for the support of a wonderful team. It’s a very young team, and we’re all working in the same direction to give the Mediterráneo and Mediaset brands, and the group’s content, the greatest possible visibility worldwide,” Cotino told ttv at Mipcom.

“At Iberseries, we presented several of our latest titles. One of them is Pure-bred, a series we produced with Shine Iberia that has already been sold to 28 territories. We’re very pleased, particularly because it’s a Spanish-language production that has managed to reach markets such as English-speaking audiences in the United States, the United Kingdom and Ireland. Those are challenging markets for us,” she said.

Pure-bred is a scripted production from Shine Iberia for Mediaset España, set in a rural environment and starring Ángela Molina, Pep Munné, Aitor Luna and Amaia Salamanca.

Another addition to the catalog is Marusía: Naval Academy, produced by Mediaset España in collaboration with Unicorn Content and scheduled for Telecinco’s prime time.

“It’s a series that Telecinco will premiere soon. A group of cadets arrives at a naval academy where a suicide took place the previous year. On one side, there’s the investigation into what happened among those young people, and on the other, the arrival of the new cadets. It was actually filmed at the Naval Academy, so it has wonderful production values and real locations. We’re very happy with the result,” Cotino said.

“We also presented Olivia at Iberseries, a Studio60 and Womack production for Disney+ Spain. Mediterráneo handles international distribution. It’s a feel-good family drama from the creator of El chiringuito de Pepe, designed for audiences of all ages,” Cotino explained.

“At such a complicated time, it’s a series that offers viewers a smile throughout the six episodes of its first season. It’s set around the world of olive oil, and we’re also hoping to secure adaptation deals. We believe it’s a very strong concept for local remakes.”

La Favorita Closes In 100 Territories

“La Favorita has been one of our greatest successes in recent years. It’s currently available in 98 territories, so now we want to reach 100,” Cotino said with a laugh.

“It’s also available on different platforms depending on the market. In Spain, it’s on Netflix; in Latin America, we’ve worked with Flow and HBO Max, and we’ve also reached Belgium and Arab countries. It’s a series that has given us enormous satisfaction,” she added.

A New Joint Presence in Cannes

Mediterráneo’s participation at Mipcom 2026 also marks a step forward in the commercial collaboration between MFE-MediaForEurope and ProSiebenSat.1.

“For the first time at Mipcom, we’re sharing a stand as part of the MFE-MediaForEurope group, which Mediterráneo belongs to, alongside our colleagues at Seven. One Studios International,” Cotino said.

The joint space brings together Mediterráneo, Mediaset Distribution and Seven. One Studios International, with each company retaining its commercial identity as part of a broader strategy of international cooperation.

Speaking with ttv, Rebeca Aguilar discussed the response from buyers and the growing recognition of the Movistar Plus brand.

*with reporting by Carolina Mussio and Ana Paula Carreira from Cannes, France.

The success of Se tiene que morir mucha gente among younger viewers and international buyers’ interest in El castillo and Matar a un oso are shaping Movistar Plus’s international distribution efforts, as the Spanish company looks to expand the reach of its original productions.

“We’re very happy to be bringing several titles that are performing extremely well on our platform. Starting with Se tiene que morir mucha gente, which has been a success with critics, audiences and on social media. It’s been an incredibly positive surprise for the company to have a series that connects so strongly with younger viewers and reaches a generation that can sometimes be difficult to find the right content for,” Rebeca Aguilar, Head of International Distribution at Movistar Plus, told ttv at Mipcom.

Created by Victoria Martín and based on her novel, Se tiene que morir mucha gente is a six-part comedy starring Anna Castillo, Macarena García and Laura Weissmahr. The series premiered on May 21 and, following its performance on the platform, was renewed for a second season scheduled for 2027.

Movistar Plus’s Cannes slate also includes El castillo, a six-part drama created by Isabel Peña and Eduardo Villanueva, in collaboration with Caballo Films and Mafalda Entertainment. Based on Mabel Lozano’s nonfiction book El proxeneta, the series explores criminal networks involved in the sexual exploitation of women in Spain. Following its presentation at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, it premiered on Movistar Plus on October 8.

“El castillo, which premiered last Thursday, its a series we’re extremely proud of. We have Isa Peña as showrunner, dealing with a very sensitive subject in an incredibly delicate and thoughtful way,” Aguilar said.

“And toward the end of the year, we’ll be releasing Matar a un oso, the other title we’re bringing to the market. It’s a coproduction with ARTE, a thriller set in a very special location in the Pyrenees, between Spain and France. Visually, it transports you to a very distinctive and beautiful world. It’s receiving a very positive response from buyers,” she added.

Matar a un oso was created and directed by brothers Jorge and Alberto Sánchez-Cabezudo, whose previous credits include La zona and Nos vemos en otra vida. Inspired by real events, the story begins with the death of a bear named Cachou in Spain’s Aran Valley, triggering a criminal investigation and exposing tensions within a mountain community. The cast includes Eduard Fernández, María Rodríguez Soto, Miki Esparbé, Pol López, Nora Navas and Àlex Monner.

The Movistar Plus Brand

With productions such as Hierro and Antidisturbios among its established titles, Movistar Plus has built a slate of original Spanish fiction with a presence at international festivals and content markets. “We’re very fortunate to have genuinely distinctive stories in our catalog. It’s not just about the visuals, although some of our productions, such as Hierro and Antidisturbios, have a very recognizable visual identity. Beyond that, there’s the talent we work with behind the camera, the scripts and the characters. It’s very much a team effort, and I think that’s what elevates a series to the level we’re looking for.”

“Our team simply focuses on finding good stories with compelling characters that can connect with different audiences, and trying to make those stories travel as far as possible, not just in Spain but internationally,” Aguilar explained.

Movistar Plus received further recognition on the festival circuit in 2026. El castillo screened in the Official Selection at San Sebastián, while Se tiene que morir mucha gente received an award at the FesTVal in Vitoria-Gasteiz, where actress Sofía Otero was also honored.

“I think the brand is very well established. It’s taken many years to build it, working as a team and carefully defining what we wanted to do, which stories we wanted to tell and, above all, how we wanted to tell them. We’re especially proud when someone recognizes our content without even needing to see the logo,” Aguilar said.

“We’re very happy with the reception our titles are getting. We’re bringing a very varied selection, which allows us to reach different types of buyers. Hopefully, we’ll be able to announce some deals soon, because the response has been extremely positive,” she concluded.

At Mipcom, the company is also introducing FixiLab, a live-action format based on the brand, while advancing the development of its new animated series Shooting Stars.

*with reporting by Carolina Mussio and Ana Paula Carreira from Cannes, France.

Animotion Media Group arrived at Mipcom 2026 with a catalog of more than ten children’s and family properties, alongside new projects in development and a strategy focused on extending its established franchises into different genres, formats and digital platforms.

“We brought a large catalog of kids’ and family IPs, with more than ten properties, as well as several projects in development. We also brought a live-action format based on one of our flagship properties,” Julia Nikolaeva, General Manager of Animotion Media Group, told ttv in Cannes.

“The Fixies is our number one project, with worldwide distribution. Based on that franchise, we created a live-action format that has already been produced in China and will soon launch in the Middle East,” she explained.

The company’s presence at Mipcom follows a series of international distribution agreements, including a partnership with La Panadería Licensing & Marketing to bring The Fixies to TV Azteca in Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras. The deal covers the first three seasons of the animated series in Spanish, with exclusive free-to-air rights and non-exclusive digital rights for La Panadería’s FVOD and AVOD platforms.

“The agreement with TV Azteca was something we’d been waiting for for a long time. The series premiered this week, during Mipcom, so we’re still waiting for the ratings, but we’re very optimistic about its potential,” Nikolaeva said.

The Fixies Finds New Audiences in Latin America

The Fixies, an educational animated franchise about tiny creatures living inside household appliances and electronic devices, has been reaching international audiences for more than a decade. Its stories combine humor and adventure with explanations of everyday technology and scientific concepts.

“We started noticing significant growth over the past year, particularly on our Spanish-language YouTube channels and social media. This year, our Spanish-language channel reached three million subscribers,” Nikolaeva highlighted.

“The Fixies has been in the market for more than ten years, in over 30 languages. What we’re starting to see now is that there’s already a generation that grew up with the brand. On social media, we’re reaching parents and young adults who grew up watching the show and still feel attached to it. In that sense, the brand is becoming evergreen for them.”

The executive pointed to the importance of adapting established content to social media and changing viewing habits.

“We’ve seen some very interesting examples of our content going viral. For instance, we published a video explaining mathematics and how to count using your fingers, and some Spanish-speaking content creators picked it up. It generated around 30 million views in just one week,” she said.

“That’s further proof that we need to focus more on Spanish-speaking audiences, especially Latin America. We’re analyzing our data and trying to create more tailored content, particularly short-form videos, because consumption habits differ from one territory to another. Shorts are extremely popular in Latin America, across different ages and genres.”

For Animotion, repackaging existing animation is also becoming a central part of its digital distribution and monetization strategy.

“I think it’s a must nowadays for children’s content. That’s the beauty of animation: children can watch it again and again, and it doesn’t get old. We already have several seasons and feature films of The Fixies, so we need to think about how to adapt that material for different markets.”

“Our audience also helps us do that. Through their comments, their involvement and the trends we see, we can rethink the content we already have. It’s a very useful marketing tool, but also a monetization opportunity,” she explained.

FixiLab Takes the Franchise Into Live Action

One of Animotion’s main presentations at Mipcom is FixiLab, a live-action educational entertainment format developed from the animated universe of The Fixies. The format recreates the franchise’s laboratory setting, bringing together a real-life professor, children dressed as Fixies and animated sequences to explore science and technology through experiments.

“The idea is very similar to our animated episodes. We’ve already covered around 250 topics in animation, from technology to gadgets and everyday devices, so we have a lot of material to work with,” Nikolaeva explained. “We’ve already produced one season of this format in China, and now we’re producing an Arabic version for the MENA region. We introduced FixiLab to our international catalog at Mipcom and have already received interest from other territories.”

“We have a real professor playing Professor Eugenius, children wearing Fixie costumes and a laboratory setting similar to the one in the animated series. They conduct experiments together. For example, an episode might explore how a washing machine works. The professor and the Fixies investigate, ask other children questions and try to find the answers.”

“We also incorporate animation to explain the theoretical side. It’s a very entertaining 15-minute format, and because it’s a television show, we can reach a slightly older audience, up to 12 or 14 years old.”

The initiative is part of a broader effort to extend the lifespan of established children’s properties by introducing new formats and age groups.

“When you have a successful, sustainable franchise, you need to think about expanding it into different genres and reaching different age groups. That’s what we’re doing with The Fixies,” Nikolaeva said. “Animation takes a long time to produce, while live action can be faster. A format like this can also travel internationally. Once you have a popular character, you need to think about what else that character can do and where else it can exist.”

“We treat our characters like stars, almost like real actors. We also have a podcast with The Fixies. In animation, bringing together characters from different universes can sometimes be complicated, but in audio, for example, you can have two characters from different shows meeting in a podcast and having a conversation,” she explained.

Shooting Stars Moves Forward in Development

Animotion is also advancing Shooting Stars, a new animated action-comedy series centered on a girls’ football team whose players acquire extraordinary superpowers. The 2D project, presented in the company’s catalog as a 22 x 11-minute series, combines sports, science fiction, friendship and the challenges of growing up.

“At last year’s Mipcom, we were looking for the right partners for Shooting Stars, including animation studios and potential media partners. I think that during this Mipcom, we’ve finally found the studios we were looking for. We hope to announce more details soon,” Nikolaeva revealed.

“Coproduction has become essential. Platforms tend to prioritize spin-offs and projects based on existing successful properties, whether they’re books, series or films. When you’re developing a new IP, you have to bring together different partners and understand where and how the content will be distributed before the project can move forward. Putting all those pieces together takes time.”

In Shooting Stars, a girls’ football team gains superpowers after a mysterious meteor strikes their playing field. Their new abilities reflect their personalities and personal challenges, while the players must confront monsters threatening their city.

“It’s about a girls’ football team with superpowers, and those powers are connected to the problems they face growing up. For example, a girl who tends to run away from her problems becomes incredibly fast,” Nikolaeva explained. “It’s a story about friendship and relationships with parents, but at the same time, the girls have to save their city from monsters. We’re still keeping our focus on safe, family-friendly entertainment, while exploring new stories and audiences.”

The Portuguese Association of Independent Television Producers (APIT) and Brazil Audiovisual Independente (BRAVI) have renewed and expanded their cooperation agreement, strengthening collaboration between the audiovisual industries of Portugal and Brazil.

The agreement, which has linked the two organizations since 2017, was renewed in Cannes during Mipcom 2026, where APIT and BRAVI are participating as part of the Portuguese and Brazilian pavilions, respectively.

The partnership seeks to foster cooperation between the organizations and their members through initiatives related to social development, promotion, education, economic growth and culture.

Its priorities include the development of public policies for the audiovisual sector, professional training and capacity-building, the international promotion of Portuguese and Brazilian content, and the creation of favorable conditions for coproductions between the two countries.

The renewed agreement covers a two-year period and builds on an established relationship focused on knowledge sharing, business opportunities and support for independent producers.

“The renewal of this agreement with BRAVI reinforces our ambition to bring independent producers from Portugal and Brazil even closer together, creating new opportunities for collaboration, coproduction and the international promotion of content. We are confident that the partnership between APIT and BRAVI will continue to benefit our members and contribute to the growth of the audiovisual sector in both countries,” said Susana Gato, Executive President of APIT.

Mauro Garcia, Executive President of BRAVI, highlighted the agreement’s broader ambitions.

“We speak of expanding the scope of this agreement because we share the ambition of engaging public policymakers in our countries to broaden its reach to encompass the audiovisual industry as a whole, including television series and programs for both broadcast and streaming platforms. The globalization of audiovisual content distribution presents significant challenges, but through our cooperation we can reach new markets for our productions,” he said.

Founded in 1996, APIT currently represents 59 members and works to support independent television producers in Portugal through knowledge sharing, professional exchanges and participation in national and international events.

BRAVI, founded in 1999, represents more than 670 independent audiovisual production companies across 21 Brazilian states. The association promotes industry development through institutional partnerships, regulatory engagement, training and support for the internationalization of Brazilian audiovisual production.
