The agreement signed with distributor StudioCanal brings the successful co-production of African streaming service Showmax and Canal+ to Brazilian screens.

Globo acquired the action drama Spinners, successfully broadcast on the South African streaming service Showmax and by Canal+. The agreement signed with distributor StudioCanal will bring this eight-episode series, which revolves around the dangerous South African motorsport of spinning, to Brazilian screens.

The series, which premiered in sub-Saharan Africa on Showmax and Canal+ for Africa in November, shows the dangerous feats of drivers who compete at high speed and perform stunts in and out of the vehicle.

With amazing production values, the series is a hybrid mix of thfantasticmic and electrifying sport, an intriguing criminal and gangster investigation, and a touching coming-of-age story.

Anne Chérel, executive vice president of Global Sales and Distribution at StudioCanal, commented that they are incredibly pleased to see this solid drama travel to Globo in Brazil. “The high-octane series Spinners highlights the terrifying pursuits young adults are subjected to in South Africa, as well as revealing the difficult and harrowing life they must continually navigate.”

The cast includes Arendsvlei’s Cantona James and Chelsea Thomas in the lead roles, along with South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) winner Brendon Daniels (Zulu, Skemerdans, Five Fingers for Marseille) and local celebrity Dillon Windvogel (Blood & Water).

Directed by Jaco Bouwer (Gaia, 2021 SXSW winner, 4 Mure, 2022 SAFTA Best TV Drama nominee) and produced and co-created by Joachim Landau, Spinners‘ showrunner and co-creator is Benjamin Hoffman.
