The distributor is present in Miami with a great catalogue of new releases, led by the multi-award-winning Emilia Pérez and the successful El conte de Montecristo.

The film Emilia Pérez started the year in style when it was crowned the big winner of the night during the Golden Globes, taking home four awards, including best film, musical or comedy; and best film in a non-English language.

And these awards were also a reason for celebration for CDC United Network, in charge of its distribution in Latin America.

“Receiving so many nominations and winning so many awards definitely puts you on the map, it changes the destiny of a film,” Jimmy van der Heyden, Sales Manager of CDC United Network, began in a conversation with ttvnews during the current edition of Content Americas in Miami.

“It has been very positive for the film, for its distribution both in theaters and on platforms, for the time of negotiation it is a very solid sales argument,” he added.

And having the knowledge and experience to be able to detect the potential of the film very early in its journey through the festivals, is proof of CDC’s ability to shine as a distributor in the international market.

“We bought Emilia Perez after the Cannes Film Festival, where it won its first awards. And there the acquisition team was able to see it and was amazed by the creativity and how special it is. It mixes many themes, it is difficult to define the genre. It is musical, it is action, it is suspense… It touches on very current themes. We saw a lot of potential to win many awards and that encouraged us to acquire it. Knowing that we were able to get content of this caliber so early is very positive for CDC,” explained the executive.

Together with Emilia Pérez, the group arrived in Miami with another film highly praised by critics and very successful in its country of origin: The Count of Monte Cristo.

“The Count of Monte Cristo was the most successful film in France,” said the sales executive. “And that generated a lot of interest internationally. We bought it for Latam and managed to sell it to all countries for cinema distribution. The release is underway and it is doing quite well.”

“It is a very famous story, the level of production is for the international market, on par with Hollywood. The story is deep, special. Betrayal and revenge are things that attract a mass audience. We have done well with it and I think its results in all windows will be very positive,” he predicted.

And as “it is important to reach any market with new things,” Van der Heyden highlighted, in addition to Emilia Perez and The Count of Monte Cristo, CDC United Network is presenting Strange Darling, “a sexy thriller, with a bit of terror, very surprising that is about to be released in theaters in Latam,” he explained.

The new releases catalogue is completed with the science fiction thriller Breathe, starring Milla Jovovich; and the animations Panda Bear in Africa, Niko 3, Beyond the Northern Lights, among others. “We continue with an extensive library of titles with famous actors. We try to bring commercial products, classics and titles that attract mass audiences in Latam,” he concluded.
