Creating unique stories that explore uncharted themes is the focus of Movistar Plus+, supported by Spain’s best creators, to develop productions such as La Mesías, Querer, Los años nuevos, and Muertos SL.

Rebeca Aguilar, Distribution Manager at Movistar Plus+ International, shared this with ttvnews. “I think the cornerstone is trusting creators. We have excellent relationships with creators who, we believe, are setting themselves apart in Spain. From these relationships, the entire pipeline at Movistar emerges. We’ve built a solid foundation with stories that offer something different. It’s a source of pride to look at our catalog and see stories like La Mesías or Querer, which haven’t been told anywhere else.”

With Rodrigo Sorogoyen, they developed Los años nuevos. “He’s a creator we deeply value because he’s been working with us for years, starting with Antidisturbios. Now, Los años nuevos is a fantastic series that tells the love story of a couple over ten years, highlighting their connections and disconnections along the way. The way he tells the story is truly special,” Aguilar said.

The Movistar Plus+ executive stressed that each title has its journey. “The great thing about attending markets is having that direct contact with clients to explore business models.”

“We also have Querer, which premiered last year. It’s a very special series that tells its story with incredible sensitivity. It performed excellently in terms of audience numbers in Spain. It’s about a woman who decides to report her husband for abuse after 30 years. The judicial process is tough, and the children are forced to take sides. The story unfolds without flashbacks, and you follow the family through the entire process,” she explained.

Aguilar also highlighted the release of the second season of Muertos SL in Spain. “The first season was a huge success; we couldn’t expect anything less. It’s a super fun, dynamic series set in a funeral home, where the employees interact very comedically. There are conflicts, romances, heartbreaks—it all happens there.”

Regarding the success of La Mesías as Best Miniseries or Limited Series at the Rose d’Or Latino Awards, Aguilar stated: “Recognition is always helpful, and we’re thrilled to receive it. Yesterday’s award is an honor—amazingly, the Latin audience acknowledges an intense series that tells a story that needs to be told.”

La Mesías is distributed through Max in Latin America, and discussions are underway for the U.S. Hispanic market. “We believe this award will help a lot.”
